Even in this age of Harry Potter books, Indian folk tales and bedtime stories continue to enchant the young reader.
Jataka Tales from ancient India serve as a moral guide in the garb of tales of wisdom. Written around 300 BC in the Pali language, these stories (a total of 547 in number) are mainly about past incarnations of the Buddha.
The original Sanskrit text of "Panchatantra" was written by Pandit Vishu Sharma around 200 BC, and contained a collection of popular tales. Each of these stories has a moral that continues to be relevant to this day.
